June 14 is World Blood Donor Day.

Last year over 110,000 New Zealanders donated whole blood, plasma and platelets – over 160,000 units of blood.

The New Zealand Blood Service Te Ratonga Toto o Aotearoa website gives you lots of information about this valuable and voluntary community service. There are no synthetic alternatives to blood and the service needs to collect over 3,000 donations every week in order to keep up with demand.

Visit the ‘Amazing stories’ page to see what a difference a blood donation can make.
