Each November, World Antibiotic Awareness Week aims to increase global awareness of antibiotic resistance and to encourage best practice to avoid the further emergence and spread of antibiotic resistance. This year it occurs 12 – 18 November.

In Aotearoa New Zealand, the Royal Society Te Apārangi is a reliable source of information: have a look at the “Reduce the overuse of antibiotics” page on their website.

The Royal Society Te Apārangi is also on Facebook, and includes this link to a topical presentation from Microbiologist Dr Siouxsie Wiles explaining how antimicrobial resistance and untreatable infectious diseases are becoming a major threat to global health.
