Diabetes Self-Management Education Course

Diabetes Self-Management Education (DSME) is designed to enhance your understanding of type 2 diabetes, its causes, and how to improve and maintain your health. The course is conducted in small groups to maximise learning and provide a safe environment for questions.

The programme is led by a registered nurse and a dietary team, covering the following topics:

• Healthy eating: understanding food labels, distinguishing between good and bad fats, and making informed food choices

• Managing and controlling the impact of diabetes on the body, including the heart, eyes, kidneys, nerves, and feet

• Interpreting your blood tests

• Setting goals: action planning, accessing free support, and determining next steps
