Expert Speaker Series: COPD Management and Oral Corticosteroid Update

The Expert Speaker Series is a year-round education programme for primary care teams. It features webinars and face-to-face sessions on topics identified through last year’s education survey, presented by expert clinicians.

Our first Northland focused session, delivered in partnership with Asthma NZ, focuses on respiratory care, with practical updates on asthma and COPD management and what these mean for primary care practice.

The session will feature Dr Amy Chan (Clinical Director, Asthma NZ), who will present on oral corticosteroid (OCS) use in New Zealand, including current trends, associated risks, and practical strategies to safely reduce reliance in primary care.

Katie Faaiuaso (Nurse Lead) will cover COPD management, including the 2025 guideline updates, inhaler technique optimisation, and both pharmacological and non-pharmacological approaches to reducing exacerbations and avoidable hospital presentations.

Designed for busy primary care professionals, this session provides practical, evidence-based insights to support confident, consistent, best-practice care.
