We offer one‑to‑one dietitian services at Comprehensive Care for people with type 2 diabetes and for anyone seeking to optimise their health outcomes. Our New Zealand‑registered dietitians use a personalised, evidence‑based and holistic approach to support clients, their whānau and caregivers.

Consultations are available in person or via telehealth (Zoom or phone) for people within the Waitematā region.

Who can use this service

  • People with type 2 diabetes who are enrolled with a Comprehensive Care GP practice, contact your GP practice directly to book an appointment.

  • People who meet our service scope (see We can support you with). You can self‑refer by emailing DSME@comprehensivecare.co.nz

What we do

Our dietitians understand that everyone is unique, so we do not use one‑size‑fits‑all plans. We take time to listen, understand your concerns and goals, and co‑design practical steps that support long‑term well‑being.

We translate scientific evidence into everyday actions, such as planning weekly meals, budgeting for healthy eating and navigating supermarket aisles to choose nutritious foods.

We also explain the role of food in managing health conditions, empowering you to make informed choices that fit your lifestyle, culture and preferences.

We can support you with

  • Healthy eating

  • Diabetes management (type 2 diabetes, prediabetes)

  • Weight management

  • Heart health and cholesterol

  • Intuitive eating and improving your relationship with food

What to expect during your consultation

  • Initial consultation (about 60 minutes): Share your story. We will discuss your health and diet goals, medical and weight history, lifestyle, eating patterns and behaviours.

  • Follow‑up consultation (about 30 minutes): We will check your progress and focus on one aspect of your diet and lifestyle in each session.

Why changing eating habits can be challenging

Nutritious kai (food) supports physical and mental well‑being. What we eat can influence mood, energy levels, cognitive function, physical health and daily activities.

Everyone should be able to enjoy food and drink without unnecessary restrictions. However, maintaining a nutritious diet can be challenging for many reasons, including increased food costs, access to nutritious options, personal preferences, cultural practices and the volume of conflicting nutrition information online. Constant exposure to health and diet advice can make it hard to know what to trust and how to apply it day to day.

Changing habits can be slow and difficult. Forming new patterns takes time, support and patience. As dietitians, our role is to provide education that helps you understand food composition, find legitimate information, manage health conditions and support overall well‑being, while empowering you to keep moving toward your goals.
